Cambodia's fishery exports to drop 20 pct this year

Fish MarketThe Cambodian government is set to reduce exports of fishery products by 20 percent this year in order to cater for rising domestic demand, local media reported on Monday, citing industry officals.

Nao Thuk, director general of the Fishery Administration, said that this year Cambodia would export 24,000 tons of fishery products.

"We can catch a lot of fish, but our population has risen too. That was why we have to reduce exports of fishery products," Nao Thuk was quoted by the Phnom Penh Post as saying.

Representatives from the Fishery Administration declined to reveal the scale of domestic demand.

In March, the General Department of Fishery Administration reported that last year Cambodia exported 30,000 tons of fishery products, which included fish, lobster, sea crab and shrimp.

In 2008, only 5,000 tons were exported.

The minister of MAFF was advisory to people to farm the dry season field correctly

On March, 31th, the minister of MAFF monitored the showing dry season field in Siemreap province. In that chance, he advised farmers about the way to farm the dry season field to be better than keeping the land free.

In monitoring chance of farming the showing dry season field over 10 ha along the Romdeng dike which was donated by ECOSORN project in Choub village, Khna Por commune, Sotnikom district, Siemreap province, Mr.Chann Sarun advised to all people that farmers have to focus on a correct dry season field farming in order to get high yield. He spoke that in dry season field farming, people have to use purification seed, to prepare the land to be flat and should farm from 2 to 4 times. Besides, people ought to focus on plucking weeds out and watering on clump of rice plants for to pre-solving when it’s drought.

Book Day at Nhaeng Nhorng Commune

Hundreds of human such as teachers, students, and simple people who are parents and family guardian met each other in area surrounding a Somnab primary school, they looked to hundreds of book and title in Nhaeng Nhorng commune Tramkork district. Among of this meeting, the present of Mr. Chann Sarun, minister of MAFF and his work group officer made the people to understand about the important of preparation that’s call “Book Day”. 2027 books equal to 265 kinds were showed and donated for a rural school.

Amid of these books had 732 books equal to 136 kinds and it costs 1.021.31$ that was the donation of Mr. Chann Sarun, ministry of MAFF and 129 kinds equal to 1295 books, it costs 2.310,10$ that was donated by Mr. Thep Poun and Ms. York Sophorl.

Monitoring Dry Season Rice in Chom Bei Commune

On 23, March, the minister of Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Floristries and others specialist department officer have monitored dry season rice and irrigation activities in Samdech Huh Sen 22 and 23 water pumping station and Mettapeap Cambodia and Korea 8 and met 100 family.

In this occasion, director of agriculture district office and head of district council reported about harvesting activities. Mr. Nhin Chhay is a head of the rice crop department, General Department of Agriculture advised farmer about farming technique in order to got more yield.

Meeting of Communities Memeber to Push for Agri-Business by New Technology

Two community members who live in Prash Sdech district got encouragement from the high class officer of Agriculture Ministry. Both communities was a Pur Las Sen Chei Agricultural Development community and Bopear Sen Chei community in Krang Svay commune, Presh Sdech distict. The minister- Chan Sarun has visited there in the middle of this week to monitor Pur Las water station.

The minister encouraged the farmer attention than join together to created this communities and what he wanted was to saw the progression of this communities to others farmer and join to enlarged community. He continued: now agri-business has strongly changed so we could not practice the old technique as the old habit.

Japan wants to test their rice seed in Cambodia

Coordinators in Rice crop Research Center in Japan showed a purpose that they want to cooperate with MAFF and to test on Japanese rice seed to apply in Cambodia. Top officer of MAFF got this idea to consider.

Mr. Tosiyoki Maahara, director of SOEI CORPERATION Co, Ltd and PLANT GENOME’s spokesman told Mr. Chann Sarun, Minister of MAFF on March, 16th that in be haft of a coordinator in PLANT GENOME center which is a Japanese Rice crop Research Center, he aimed to cooperate with Cambodia in Japanese rice seed testing in order to participate in promoting and raising up the agricultural field in Cambodia, especially rice crop. In addition, his company will cooperate with Japanese Rice crop Research Center to carry out the research and experiment of Japanese rice seed in Cambodia by utilization of Japanese money package in term of ODA Mekong- Japan in future.
