Book’s Day was celebrated in the Rural Area to improve the knowledge of People

There are 400 kinds of book, which are equal to 2,000 books, were distributed to 6 communes to encourage the reading activity in the Book’s day that was celebrated on 21 January 2010  in Thnot Chum Primary School, Osaray Commune, Tramkok District. This is the initiative by Mr. Chan Sorun, the minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery and it is the second time of this activity.

387 kinds of books, equal to 1,883 books, are the donation of the minister, MAFF and the teacher Ive Sarik.  The books are about the general knowledge and livelihood related to the agriculture. The minister was very please to see all the teachers and the students joined in this ceremony. He joined in this activity at the first time on 24 January 2009.

Book’s day is celebrated on 02 January in every year to acclaim the 07th January anniversary of victory on the Genocide Regime Pol Pot. This Day also encourage people to read include city and rural; moreover, it ensure the equality of education. Means that rural people can have books to read even they are far away from the city.

The minister said that reading book seem to be in declining nowadays. The writing quality are not satified to the requirement of readers; therefore, this ceremony was created to promote writing and knowledge. He explained the benefit of reading. He confirmed that what he wanted is that both city and countryside could make a society that values the reading. To achieve this goal, instructors, family, and community encourage and give chance to children to read and keep reading as their habit.

He reminded that reading could help people to improve their farming because those books related to the agriculture also.
