On May 12, 2010, minister of MAFF, accompanied by management team and specialist officials, participated in rice seed and agriculture fertilizer providing for 213 families in Tmey Commune, Kou Len district, which was under the Global Food Security Project of the European Committee.
According to the confirmation of Mr. Peu Tryda, director of Provincial Agriculture Department, Food Security Project is one of five project of the government under the Agriculture and Water Program that focus on Food Security and the evaluation on the impact of price rising to the households. Especially, this program is help to increase the agriculture productivity and living ability.At the same day (May 12), provincial department provided the rice seed called Sen Pidau and Pka Romdoul that one family had received 20Kg and 85kg of fertilizer for rainy season 2010.
Taking this opportunity, the minister would like to sent a regard of the government and appreciate to the European committee for their rice seed and fertilizer aid. He continued that this activity reflected about the effort of the government that tries to find the aid for agriculture development and the improvement by seed change.
“ Stop using Neang Leak, and Neang Poun Rice Seed , but use Neang Songha Rice Seed “ to get a higher output for food security guarantee, he raised a recommendation of the Prime Minister Hun Sen related to the behavior change in seed selection and agricultural custom.
The minister also shared some easy methods for the System of Rice Intensification (S.R.I). Those techniques are: soil organization, how to make small seedling field, how to keep water in the field and caring method. The minister offered this job to the general department of agriculture for teaching farmers some techniques such as seed selection method, soil organization, sowing, transplant seedling, fertilizer and pesticide usage, and caring. Especially the department must find any field for a presentation model in order to push the effective changing.
He reminded that according to the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, the cow had eaten only corn and bean; it meant that we would have rice remaining for this year. He expressed that rice could remain or not base on our effort. We must be well prepared for rainy season 2010 to improve the agriculture productivity in term of effectiveness and efficiency.
