Major Activities:

The Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Land Improvement is undertaking several activities to be solved facing problems in the central and local levels. This department plays an important role in management and development of Agricultural Production to fulfill policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia in poverty alleviation of the country.

The following are major activities of this department:

Seed Production Programme: SUPPER SWEET CORN

Maintain and purification by Kbal Koh Research Station
Green cob harvest at 70 days, yield 8-10 tons/ha

Supper Sweet corn is one variety adapted to Cambodia Agro-ecosystem. Photo insensitive variety, resistant to pest and drought. Long and big cob with Sweet flavor is compare with other imported varieties, which are available in Cambodia market.


Currently, the variety is growing at Kean Svay District, Kandal Province, Prey Noup District Sihanouk ville and Chamkar Leu District Kampoung Cham Province.

Plant Protection
According to the use of pesticide in Agricultural production is the potential of high risk to human, animal and environment, so the special extension team of Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Inspection Office have regularly conducted the training courses on pesticide safe use to the technical staffs of all provincial Deptpartment of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries and to the farmers in the rural area.

These training conducted by technical aspect, practices and intervention demonstrations.
 

Compost house
Compost marking activities, APIP supported the construction of compost house (e.i. a roofed compost pit; see photo),

Building material: palm leaves, wooden stakes, bamboo poles with walls made of mud, wooden stakes or palm trunks

Compost materials: animal (cow, horse, pig, chicken) manure, cane stalks, crop residues, rice straw, grass, leaves, wood ash, kitchen residues, bamboo stalks, sticks.

Soil and plant analysis Laboratory

The Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory is part of the technical office of the Department of agronomy and Agricultural Land Improvement and the available of Lab can be chemical and physical analysis of soil, fertilizers and plants.

Integrated Pest Management

FFS is the main activity of APIP-IPM Sub-component. An IPM FFS is a "school without walls" composed of up to 30 farmers, who meet once each week for the whole duration of rice or vegetables cropping season of 18 weeks.

Agro-ecosystem analysis is the heart of the IPM FFS Approach.
