FiA conducted a marine fishing vessel census in 2018 with budget support from the EU, resulting in the first-ever marine fishing vessel list, including 7,552 fishing vessels. Based on the data and information collected, a vessel database was developed under FAO CAPFISH Capture technical support to serve as the record of all marine fishing vessels for Cambodia. The interface allows users to find and filter records, view, export, print, and edit vessel records.

Besides acting as a baseline record for the 2018 marine fishing vessel Census, the database allows fisheries staff at national and provincial levels access to update the vessel list and link it to other data sets for data collection and analysis. Staff at FiA, FiAC, and the General Department of Waterway and Maritime Transport, and Ports (GDWMTP) have been granted access to validate, update, or add new records. FiA and FiAC staff have been trained on using the database to update, add or remove vessel records.

Additionally, the marine fishing vessel database includes the marine fishing vessel registration information obtained from coastal provinces, annual fishing license data, while efforts are underway to add the VMS deployment database.
